9 Reasons Why an Avocado a Day Can Change Your Life:

1. Avocados contain the 18 amino acids required to form complete protein that is used more efficiently by the body than are proteins found in meat.

2. Avocados contain more natural fiber than any other fruit, and this high fiber content aids in digestion and total body absorption of nutrients.

3. Healthy fats found in avocados raise “good” cholesterol (HDL) while lowering “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides by 20%.

4. Avocados contain 35% more potassium than a banana does. Potassium is important because it regulates blood pressure.

5. Avocados provide the lutein necessary to protect you from age-related eye degeneration.

6. The anti-inflammatory properties of avocados prevent and/or treat rheumatoid arthritis.

7. Sufficient amounts of oleic acid improve your cardiovascular system and protect against prostate and breast cancer.

8. Vitamin B6 and folic acid control homocysteine levels – high quantities of homocysteine are linked to an increased risk of death from heart disease.

9. Glutathione boosts your body’s immune system and keeps your nervous system healthy.

Peanuts (or groundnuts), belonging  to the legume family along with peas, beans and lentils, offer a variety of health benefits. Besides being a powerful source of energy, peanuts contain various nutrients, minerals, anti-oxidants and vitamins that are necessary for optimum health.
Listed are the reasons why you must munch peanuts for a better health.

Regulates sugar level

Peanuts are an excellent source of manganese, a mineral that has a crucial role in sustaining fat/carbohydrate metabolism, calcium absorption and blood sugar regulation.

Prevents weight gain

One serving of peanuts (28.3 g)  provides 181 calories. Energy-packed peanuts make a great healthy snack option, as they are more filling than other low fat food options. It keeps one satiated for much longer, preventing an addition of more calories and thereby, keeping control  over weight.

Boosts brain function

Owing to vitamin B3 (or niacin) content, peanuts can be referred to as a superfood for brain. Niacin improves brain functioning and also boosts memory power.

Reduces heart diseases risk

Rich in monounsaturated fats and anti-oxidants such as oleic acid, groundnuts lower the risk of heart diseases. A handful of peanuts four times a week decrease your risk of cardiovascular and coronary heart diseases significantly.

Promotes fertility

A handful of peanuts everyday not just fulfils the requirement of folate during pregnancy, but also promotes fertility. Besides, peanuts reduces the chances of having a baby born with a serious neural tube defect.

Protects against cancer

Beta-sitoserol, a form of phytosterol, is present in high concentration in peanuts. The phytosterol protects against cancer by inhibiting tumour growth. Moreover, high concentration of poly-phenolic antioxidants in peanuts decreases the risk of stomach cancer by reducing the formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines.

Decreases LDL

Copper in peanuts ensures that bad cholesterol in blood is decreased, whereas it also increases good cholesterol levels.

Prevents age-related cognitive decline

The intake of niacin-rich food such as peanuts prevents the development of alzheimer’s disease.

Prevents gallstones

Women who eat an ounce of nuts in a week are 25 per cent less likely to develop gallstones, suggests Nurses' Health Study.

Fights depression

Peanuts contain tryptophan, an essential amino acid responsible for the production of serotonin,  a key brain chemical involved in mood regulation. Tryptophan present in peanuts raise serotonin’s antidepressant effects when there is an increased amount of serotonin in the blood.

There are plenty of forms in which peanuts are available  such as  salted, dry roasted, boiled and even raw. Peanut brittle, peanut butter and candy bars are among other options that you can  include  in your diet. If you want a nutritious punch filled with an array of  essential nutrients in a single package, add peanuts to your chart and see the wonders.

Overdone it on the grog? While you may be tempted to reach for the junk food to make yourself feel better, loading your overworked liver with more toxins is actually the last thing it needs. Instead, try snacking on one of these alternative foods to aid your recovery and start feeling better in no time at all.

1.                  Hangover food 1: Vegemite

One reason many of us feel so bad the morning after a drinking session is because alcohol depletes your system of essential nutrients, including B vitamins. A lack of B vitamins can cause anxiety and depression, so try munching on vegemite - a rich source of the vitamin B complex - to lift your mood. As an added benefit, vegemite has a high sodium content which can help replace the salts lost through drinking alcohol. Try the savoury spread on toast for an added fix of carbs.less

2.                  Hangover food 2: Watermelon

Not only does alcohol deplete your body of nutrients, it can also lead to low blood sugar levels, which may leave you feeling weak and shaky. To counteract this, try snacking on watermelon, which is not only high in fructose but is also water-rich to boost hydration. On top of this, watermelon is high in many essential nutrients, including vitamin C, B-vitamins and magnesium

3.                  Hangover food 3: Ginger

If too much alcohol has you feeling queasy, ginger is the perfect food to help settle your stomach and relieve nausea. While you may not feel much like chewing on the food in its original form, you could try adding some grated ginger to hot water for a ginger tea, blending into a fresh fruit or vegetable juice, or snacking on ginger biscuits for a stomach-soothing treat.

4.                  Hangover food 4: Eggs

Scrambled, fried or boiled, eggs are a popular hangover breakfast, and the good news is they are a great choice for beating the nastiest of hangovers. Firstly, eggs are extremely rich in protein, which helps raise mood-boosting serotonin levels as well as helping to reduce nausea. Furthermore, eggs are rich in an amino acid called cystine, which helps fight against the alcohol-induced toxins that contribute to your hangover.less

5.                  Hangover food 5: Bananas

Bananas are packed with potassium and magnesium, two of the minerals often depleted in our bodies when alcohol is consumed. A lack of potassium in the body can lead to nausea, weakness and tiredness, so stocking up on bananas can help reduce these classic hangover symptoms. As an added bonus, bananas are natural antacids so great for reducing stomach acid, and are good for providing a boost of energy if you have a busy day ahead.less

6.                  Hangover food 6: Soup

One of the most important steps for beating a hangover is getting your body rehydrated, and this can be done through what you eat as much as what you drink. To up your fluids and sodium levels and get a shot of nutrients all at once, try some health-boosting vegetable or miso soup. As an added benefit, soup is easy on the stomach so good if you're feeling a bit queasy.

7.                  Hangover food 7: Oats

Due to the diuretic effects of alcohol, the body loses many essential minerals and vitamins during a heavy drinking session. Luckily, oats can provide you with many of these nutrients, including B vitamins (good for the liver and mood) and essential minerals magnesium, calcium and iron. On top of this, oats can help neutralise acidity levels in the body, cleanse the liver, absorb toxins and slowly raise blood sugar levels, making a bowl of porridge the perfect hangover breakfast.less

8.                  Hangover food 8: Fruit juice

If you're feeling a bit queasy at the thought of food, then this is the cure for you. While it's great to line your stomach with food if you can, to replace lost vitamins, raise blood sugar levels and rehydrate your body, you can't do much better than a glass of fresh juice. Not only is juice good for immediate relief, the fructose will also help speed up the removal of alcohol from your blood.

9.                  Hangover food 9: Sardines

If you're craving something savoury, sardines on toast could be the perfect morning-after breakfast. A major cause of hangovers is an imbalance of electrolytes, and sardines are rich in many of these vital minerals, including sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium and calcium. In addition to this, sardines are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for protecting the liver as well as lifting the mood.

10.              Hangover food 10: Coconut water

Many hangover sufferers swear by sports drinks as a way to hydrate the body and help rebalance electrolytes. However, sports drinks are often carbonated, which can irritate the stomach, and packed with refined sugars. For a natural alternative to sports drinks, try sipping on some coconut water, which contains essential electrolytes (including calcium, potassium and magnesium) to boost hydration, and is also soothing for the stomach.

When's the last time you kicked off your shoes and reveled in the feeling of the Earth under your feet? Been awhile?

It may sound hard to believe, but engaging in this simple pleasure could give your health a much-needed boost.

Walking barefoot outside, with the soles of your feet free to mesh with the surface of the Earth – is an activity known as Earthing, or grounding.

You are an Electrical Being, and the Earth's Surface is Electrically Conductive

You are an electrical being - your body regularly produces positive charges, which can oxidize and harm you if excessive. The Earth's surface is electrically conductive; it maintains a negative charge with its free electron supply continually replenished by the global atmospheric electrical circuit.

As reported in the Journal of Environmental and Public Health:

"It is an established fact that the Earth's surface possesses a limitless and continuously renewed supply of free or mobile electrons.

… Mounting evidence suggests that the Earth's negative potential can create a stable internal bioelectrical environment for the normal functioning of all body systems. Moreover, oscillations of the intensity of the Earth's potential may be important for setting the biological clocks regulating diurnal body rhythms, such as cortisol secretion."

There is growing research showing that this connection to the Earth's surface plays a vital role in preventing disease and as well as offering a host of benefits.

The problem, of course, is that while humans have historically spent much of their days with their bare skin next to the Earth (both while walking and sleeping, including on animal skins, which still allow electrons to enter the body), today this vital connection has been lost.

Modern lifestyle has increasingly separated humans from the primordial flow of Earth's electrons.

For example, since the 1960's, we have increasingly worn insulating rubber or plastic soled shoes, instead of the traditional leather fashioned from hides… Obviously, we no longer sleep on the ground as we did in times past.

What Happens When You Absorb Free Electrons from the Earth?

The scientific theory behind the health benefits seen from this simple practice, is that since the Earth has a greater negative charge than your body, you end up absorbing electrons from it. This is, in my understanding, one of the most potent antioxidants we know of and may have an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect on your body.

To put it simply, it's thought that the influx of free electrons from the Earth's surface will help to neutralize free radicals and reduce both acute and chronic inflammation, which is at the root of many health conditions and accelerated aging.

Earthing Research Shows Significant Benefits

Earthing research has revealed an impressive impact on a variety of health conditions and was found to offer improvements in the following conditions:

  • Sleep disturbances, including sleep apnea
  • Chronic muscle and joint pain, and other types of pain
  • Asthmatic and respiratory conditions
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Inflammation
  • PMS
  • Hypertension
  • Energy levels
  • Stress
  • Immune system activity and response
  • Heart rate variability
  • Primary indicators of osteoporosis
  • Fasting glucose levels among people with diabetes
Another invaluable benefit is this: when your body is grounded, researchers write, "its electrical potential becomes equalized with the Earth's electrical potential through a transfer of electrons from the Earth to the body." This, in turn, offers an "umbrella" of protection against the electromagnetic fields that are now ubiquitous in our environment.

Earthing Prescription

The effects of grounding appear to be so profound that researchers suggest health practitioners prescribe outdoor "barefoot sessions".  This is as simple as it sounds – you kick off your shoes and socks and walk barefoot on the grass, the dirt, the sand or whatever "Earth" is available to you.

Studies suggest that benefits such as pain relief and stress reduction may occur in just 30-80 minutes of barefoot time a day.

There’s little scientific support for the claim that taking antioxidant supplements can shield you from these conditions, according to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. However, a number of studies have shown that people who eat plenty of antioxidant-packed foods may have a lower risk of chronic disease. In addition to shooting for at least nine servings of vibrantly colored veggies and fruits each day, try including these lesser-known antioxidant sources in your diet:

1) Popcorn. In a 2012 study from the University of Scranton, scientists discovered that popcorn contains greater concentrations of polyphenols (a type of potent antioxidant) than fruits and veggies do. Through a series of laboratory tests, the study’s authors also found that the popcorn hull—that crunchy bit that tends to get caught in your teeth—provides the highest concentration of polyphenols.

2) Cinnamon. Spicing up your coffee, tea, cereal, or oatmeal with cinnamon can add more antioxidants to your day—as well as protect your heart from harmful blood fats known as triglycerides, according to a 2011 study from Pennsylvania State University.

3) Pistachios. Introducing pistachios into a healthy diet can increase your antioxidant levels and may enhance heart health in people with high cholesterol, a 2010 study from the Journal of Nutrition suggests.

4) Coffee. Skip the decaf—a 2011 study from the Journal of Physical Chemistry B shows that the caffeine found in coffee offers powerful antioxidant effects.

5) Eggs. In a 2011 study, University of Alberta researchers demonstrated that two amino acids available in eggs (tryptophan and tyrosine) have high antioxidant properties.

6)The cocoa in chocolate contains flavonoids, antioxidants that fight blood vessel damage and prevent blood clots, which may lead to stroke.

A Swedish study found that men who ate the most chocolate (2.2 oz) had a 17% lower risk of stroke than men who didn’t indulge at all or very little. While the research did not explore the type of chocolate consumed, dark chocolate contains more cocoa than milk chocolate.

Chocolate’s not your thing? Green and black tea, red wine, blueberries, strawberries and garlic are also rich in flavonoids.

 Make a face mask
Who needs Botox when you have bananas? That’s right: You can use a banana as an all-natural face mask that moisturizes your skin and leaves it looking and feeling softer. Mash up a medium-sized ripe banana into a smooth paste, then gently apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 10-20 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water. Another popular mask recipe calls for 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 medium banana.

Eat a frozen “banana-sicle”
As a summer treat for friends and family, peel and cut four ripe bananas in half (across the middle). Stick a wooden ice-cream stick into the flat end of each piece. Place them all on a piece of wax paper, and then put it in the freezer. A few hours later, serve them up as simply yummy frozen banana-sicles. If you want to go all-out, quickly dip your frozen bananas in 6 ounces (170 grams) melted butterscotch or chocolate morsels (chopped nuts or shredded coconut are optional), then refreeze.

Tenderize a roast
Banana leaves are commonly used in many Asian countries to wrap meat as it’s cooking to make it more tender. Some folks in these areas say the banana itself also has this ability. So the next time you fear the roast you’re cooking will turn tough on you, try softening it up by adding a ripe, peeled banana to the pan.

Polish silverware and leather shoes
It may sound a bit like a lark, but using a banana peel is actually a great way to put the shine back into your silverware and leather shoes. First, remove any of the leftover stringy material from the inside of the peel, then just start rubbing the inside of the peel on your shoes or silver. When you’re done, buff up the object with a paper towel or soft cloth. You might even want to use this technique to restore your leather furniture. Test it on a small section first before you take on the whole chair.

Brighten up houseplants
Are the leaves on your houseplants looking dingy or dusty? Don’t bother misting them with water — that just spreads the dirt around. Rather, wipe down each leaf with the inside of a banana peel. It’ll remove all the gunk on the surface and replace it with a lustrous shine.

Deter aphids
Are aphids attacking your rosebushes or other plants? Bury dried or cut-up banana peels an inch or two deep around the base of the aphid-prone plants, and soon the little suckers will pack up and leave. Don’t use whole peels or the bananas themselves, though; they tend to be viewed as tasty treats by raccoons, squirrels, gophers, rabbits, and other animals, who will just dig them up.

Use as fertilizer or mulch
Banana peels, like the fruit itself, are rich in potassium — an important nutrient for both you and your garden. Dry out banana peels on screens during the winter months. In early spring, grind them up in a food processor or blender and use it as a mulch to give new plants and seedlings a healthy start. Many cultivars of roses and other plants, like staghorn ferns, also benefit from the nutrients found in banana peels; simply cut up some peels and use them as plant food around your established plants.

Add to compost pile
With their high content of potassium and phosphorus, whole bananas and peels are welcome additions to any compost pile — particularly in so-called compost tea recipes. The fruit breaks down especially fast in hot temperatures. But don’t forget to remove any glued-on tags from the peels, and be sure to bury bananas deep within your pile — otherwise they may simply turn out to be a meal for a four-legged visitor.

Attract butterflies and birds
Bring more butterflies and various bird species to your backyard by putting out overripe bananas (as well as other fruits such as mangos, oranges, and papayas) on a raised platform. Punch a few holes in the bananas to make the fruit more accessible to the butterflies. Some enthusiasts swear by adding a drop of Gatorade to further mush things up. The fruit is also likely to attract more bees and wasps as well, so make sure that the plat-form is well above head level and not centrally located. Moreover, you’ll probably want to clear it off before sunset, to discourage visits from raccoons and other nocturnal creatures.

The pepino is related to the solanaceae family, that includes potato, aubergine and other products. Pepino is native to Andean regions of Colombia, Peru and Chile. The fruit is round or oval shaped. The color of the thin skin is yellow or greenish with reddish brown spots or stripes. The flesh is yellow, juicy and soft. Pepino has a sweet flavour and tastes like melon and pear. The centre of the fruit contains many flat, round, edible seeds.

Solanum muricatum is a species of evergreen shrub native to South America and grown for its sweet edible fruit.
It is known as pepino dulce ("sweet pepino" in English, in order to differentiate it from cucumber which is also called "pepino" in Spanish) or simply pepino; the latter is also used for similar species such as "S. mucronatum" (which actually seems to belong in the related genus Lycianthes). The pepino dulce fruit resembles a melon (Cucumis melo) in color, and its flavor recalls a succulent mixture of honeydew and cucumber, and thus it is also sometimes called pepino melon or melon pear, but pepinos are only very distantly related to melons and pears. Another common name, "tree melon", is more often used for the Papaya (Carica papaya) and the pepino dulce plant does generally not look much like a tree. The present species is, however, a close relative of other nightshades cultivated for their fruit, including the tomato (S. lycopersicum) and the eggplant (S. melongena), which its own fruit closely resembles.
The fruit is common in markets in Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, but less often overseas because it is quite sensitive to handling and does not travel well. Attempts to produce commercial cultivars and to export the fruit have been made in New Zealand,Turkey, Mauritius and Chile.

Pepino (Solanum muricatum Aiton), is a fruit that is still a family with eggplant family. This fruit comes from the Andes region of Peru and Chile (South America). In pepino fruits contain lots of vitamin C, but it also contains minerals, simple sugar and pottasium. In addition to health benefits of pepino fruit, the fruit is also very fresh taste (not too sweet or sour). Pepino fruit shape like a cucumber, with skin texture such as eggplant, but the content or the flesh soft and contain a high water content.

In America, pepino was selected as one super fruit along with other exotic fruits for antioxidant strength and health benefits. In China, this plant several times examined and shown to have no toxic effects to the body. In fact, now being developed seriously as a raw material and reliever medication canker sores constipation problems.

Some of the benefits of pepino fruit is as follows:

1. Improve Stamina
The fruit is also considered useful for people with diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer and kidney stones. Regular consumption of pepino will provide optimal results for the prevention of these diseases. Pepino fruit is also useful to improve stamina.

2. Rich in Vitamins and Minerals
Fruit is a plant phytochemical compounds, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and natural food fiber. Phytochemical compounds are natural chemicals found in plants that give flavor, aroma, or color of a typical plant. Some properties of phytochemical compounds are: anticancer, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antithrombotic, boost the immune system, anti-inflammatory, regulates blood pressure, lower cholesterol and regulate blood sugar levels.

Pepino fruit is oval shaped with the weight varies, depending on the size of the fruit. This fruit contains a variety of useful nutrients for health, especially in the form of various minerals and vitamins. The minerals contained in pepino fruits are iron, zinc, copper, manganese, calcium and phosphorus. Some minerals such as copper, zinc, and manganese is also an antioxidant mineral.

Pepino is rich in vitamin C and vitamin B complex. The content of vitamin C in fruit pepino 25 mg per 100 grams of meat. Vitamin C is useful to prevent thrush and maintain healthy gums. In addition to vitamin E, vitamin C is a natural antioxidant useful against free radical attack, the cause of premature aging, and various types of cancer. Vitamin C is needed to enhance the body's immune system, so that the body is not susceptible to disease.

Vitamin C is good for skin and beauty care to prevent premature aging, like wrinkles on the face. Vitamin C also acts as an antioxidant which may counteract free radicals that enter the body through the foods that are fried or baked. Free radicals are very dangerous because it could potentially cause a blockage of blood vessels.

3. High fiber and beta-carotene
Dietary fiber (dietary fiber) pepino fruit is very good, 1 to 1.5 grams per 100 grams. Fiber is needed to lower cholesterol. In the digestive tract, fiber binds bile acids (the end product of cholesterol) and released with feces. The higher consumption of fiber, the more bile acids and fatty acids released.

In addition to preventing cholesterol, fiber aids the digestive system. Fibers capable of shortening the transit time, ie the time it takes food from the oral cavity until expelled as feces. Fiber binding carcinogenic (causing cancer). Thanks to the short transit time, residence time of carcinogenic substances in the body is also getting shorter, so that the smaller the chance of bodily harm.

Fiber is good for preventing diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, and other cardiovascular diseases. Unfortunately, fiber consumption in Indonesia is still very low, about 10 grams per person per day. Should be 20-30 grams per person per day. Pepino is known as a source of beta carotene, 27 mg per 100 grams of meat. Beta-carotene is a provitamin A in the body is converted into vitamin A, which is useful in the process of vision, reproduction, and metabolism.

Beta-carotene is an antioxidant that plays an important role in reducing the concentration of peroxyl radicals. Ability to work as antioxidants beta-carotene comes from its ability to stabilize the carbon-core radicals. Because beta-carotene is effective at low concentrations of oxygen, can complement the antioxidant properties of vitamin E is effective at high concentrations of oxygen.

These antioxidants also known as an element of cancer prevention, especially skin cancer and lung cancer. Beta-carotene can reach more parts of the body in a relatively longer time than vitamin A, so as to provide more optimal protection against cancer.
